Engineered Air Theatre
I was invited to perform in the 3rd Annual Engineered Air Songwriter Series just before my 2nd CD (as yet un-named) was released. The working title was “One Summer Evening”(which was the first line from “The Coyote Song”). I was feeling pretty stoked. We had recorded it in Edmonton with bass virtuoso Mike Lent, k.d. lang’s keyboardist Teddy Borowiecki, my favourite drummer-Scott Anderson, the boss man of the sax-Dave Babcock and jazz legends Bob Tildsley and P.J. Perry. I re-sang my parts and we remixed the entire CD at the behest of my new bandleader, Billy Cowsill. It featured my quirky originals(cartoon music’s Donald Ray Johnson described it!) and horn charts I had written with the help of Mike Lent. This was a statement album that defined my style as a writer for years to come. I had always tried to fight my tendency to write tunes such as “Mississippi Dream”, ”Canadian Man” and “Depending on You”, but now I was embracing it. But at the same time, my life was about to be swept up by an irresistible force;Billy Cowsill and the Co-Dependents.
